# Ethereum liquidation price and leverage calculator

**A 10× long on ETH from $2,249.46 is liquidated at about $2,035.76, a 9.50% fall. Higher leverage moves it closer: at 50× a 1.50% fall is enough.**

Liquidation price, margin and position size for a leveraged long or short on isolated margin, with the leverage-to-liquidation-distance table.

## Formula

```text
position          = margin × leverage
long liquidation  = entry × (1 − 1 ÷ leverage + maintenance rate)
short liquidation = entry × (1 + 1 ÷ leverage − maintenance rate)
with extra margin: move that liquidates = (margin + extra margin) ÷ position − maintenance rate
```

## ETH liquidation price by leverage

| Leverage | Move that liquidates | Long liquidated at (entry $2,249.46) | Short liquidated at (entry $2,249.46) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 2× | 49.50% | $1,135.98 | $3,362.94 |
| 3× | 32.83% | $1,510.89 | $2,988.03 |
| 5× | 19.50% | $1,810.82 | $2,688.10 |
| 10× | 9.50% | $2,035.76 | $2,463.16 |
| 20× | 4.50% | $2,148.23 | $2,350.69 |
| 25× | 3.50% | $2,170.73 | $2,328.19 |
| 50× | 1.50% | $2,215.72 | $2,283.20 |
| 75× | 0.83% | $2,230.71 | $2,268.21 |
| 100× | 0.50% | $2,238.21 | $2,260.71 |
| 125× | 0.30% | $2,242.71 | $2,256.21 |

Entry price: ETH $2,249.46 (price as of Oct 29, 2026, 20:48 UTC).

## Position size with leverage

$500.00 of margin at 10× opens a $5,000.00 position, 2.22275568 ETH at $2,249.46. A 1% move in your favor returns 10.00% of the margin before fees.

## Isolated vs cross margin

On isolated margin only the position's own margin can be lost. On cross margin the account's free balance backs the position too: liquidation moves further away, and the whole balance is at risk. A 10× long on ETH from $2,249.46 with $500.00 isolated is liquidated at $2,035.76; on cross with $1,000.00 more in free balance, at $1,585.87.

## Why does my exchange show a different liquidation price?

Exchanges raise the maintenance rate as a position grows, take fees out of the margin and trigger liquidation on the mark price, not the last trade. At a 1.00% maintenance rate instead of 0.50%, the same 10× long on ETH from $2,249.46 is liquidated at $2,047.01 instead of $2,035.76.

## How much leverage is too much

Around 9.75× the cushion to liquidation equals what a 1% move pays. Below it the margin absorbs more than a 1% move earns; above it every extra turn of leverage buys payoff by shrinking the cushion.
